I've Been Tagged

My friend Erin over at The Mom Buzz tagged me! This means I'm supposed to share seven things I learned during my first month as a mom. But that was almost three sleep-deprived years ago (seriously - how in the world is my first-born almost THREE???) so I'll see what I can come up with as a mishmash of learnings from these two amazing kiddos.

1. C-sections suck, but a healthy baby is worth it. (The VBAC with Greta was so much better!)
2. Some of the happiest words the mom of a preemie can hear are "We're going to treat your baby like a healthy baby instead of a sick baby now."
3. Newborns make scary, terrifying choking sounds in their sleep. That's normal.
4. It is NOT normal for your baby to scream all the time when they are awake and only sleep in 15 minute chunks from sheer exhaustion.
5. Mom instincts - even new mom instincts - can tell a mom when her baby is hurting.
6. Infant reflux is miserable.
7. Finding a pediatrician who listens to you, trusts you and respects your parenting decisions is of utmost importance.

Hmm - those really seem like downer things to think of, but I've never sugar coated the fact that Fin's first few months were HARD. We did eventually get his reflux diagnosed and treated, but he was about 6 weeks old at the time. That first month was just a blur of painful recovery from a terrifying birth experience and bad surgery, having a preemie and trying to find any way he would sleep, then making it day to day by sheer force of will.

We did have some very sweet, amazing moments with Fin when he was tiny, but those first few months were rough.
